Introduction to Yunnan Coffee in China

The cultivation of Yunnan coffee began in 1892 and was successfully introduced by French missionaries in Zhukula Village, Binchuan County. It has a history of more than 130 years. Starting from the 1950s, large-scale cultivation began and after years of development, it has now become the largest coffee producing area in China. By 2024, the planting area will reach 1.267 million mu and the output will be 146000 tons, accounting for over 98% of the total national output.

Unique advantages of the production area

Yunnan is located between latitude 15 ° N and Tropic of Cancer, belonging to the world's golden coffee belt. The production areas are mainly distributed in seven provinces and cities including Pu'er, Baoshan, Lincang, and Dehong. Here, with low latitude, high altitude, large temperature difference between day and night, fertile soil, abundant sunshine, and abundant rainfall, the natural conditions are similar to those in world-renowned coffee producing areas such as Colombia, providing an ideal environment for coffee growth.

Rich variety and high-quality

The main variety is Arabica, commonly known as Yunnan small grain coffee. Traditionally, the Bobang variety and Tiebica variety are the main varieties, and later varieties such as Katim were introduced. These varieties of coffee beans have the characteristics of rich aroma, soft taste, and moderate acidity, making them ideal raw materials for making high-quality coffee.

Unique and charming flavor

Yunnan coffee belongs to the mellow aroma type, with the characteristics of being strong but not bitter, fragrant but not strong, and slightly fruity. It also has a light jasmine fragrance and refreshing fruity acid taste, with a long-lasting aftertaste and a taste similar to Colombian coffee, which can cater to the taste of the public.

Mature industrial development

Yunnan has formed a complete industrial chain from planting, initial processing to deep processing. In 2024, the coffee premium rate in the province will reach 31.6%, and the deep processing rate will increase to 80%. A number of well-known brands such as Aini, Beigui, Manya, as well as multiple premium coffee estates, have emerged. Meanwhile, the export volume of Yunnan coffee continues to grow, reaching 30000 tons in the first three quarters of 2024, a year-on-year increase of 371%, and sold to more than 40 countries and regions around the world.
